The 13th and most recent 24,000 20-foot equivalent (TEU) ultra-large container vessel from China State Shipbuilding Corporation (abbreviated CSSC) is MSC China, which was designed by the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group and constructed by China Shipbuilding Trading Corporation and Jiangnan Shipyard.

With a molded width of 61.5 meters and a molded depth of 33.2 meters, MSC China measures 399.99 meters in length. Det Norske Veritas assigned the ship a classification (DNV).

The ship has a number of modern equipment installed to aid in lowering fuel usage as well as greenhouse gas emissions. The ship’s air lubrication system is intended to cut overall energy consumption and carbon emissions by three to four percent.

A total of 24,000 TEU container vessels have been successfully delivered in China in 2023 as a result of the country’s growing shipbuilding capability and rising global shipping demand. MSC Micol was handed over to MSC and Seaspan on October 1 and subsequently commissioned.

Following 13 years of dominating the global shipbuilding business, China’s shipbuilding sector is still gaining significant traction. Chinese ship completions increased 14.2 percent year over year to 21.13m deadweight tons in the first half of 2023.
