The ship, which had onboard 3,380 containers, was drifting in safe waters off Sydney pilot station, according to Maersk's statement.
The Danish carrier said, "The vessel had power supply from the emergency generator; however, it was not sufficient to perform all functions which were required to sail the vessel."
Maersk arranged tugboats to be alongside for safety and stability of the vessel while crew members were trouble shooting the issue.
