Fire on Containership Off Malaysia

Malaysian authorities were battling a fire on the M/V KMTC Shenzhen, a containership owned by Korea Marine Transport Co., off the coast of Port Klang, Malaysia.
The fire was reported on Saturday and multiple assets have been deployed to respond to the incident.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said the fire was burning in at least 9 out of 1,189 containers on board, but all 18 crew members are reported safe.
Firefighting efforts were ongoing as of Sunday, and the situation seems to be under control.

The ship departed from Hong Kong on August 8, according to AIS data.
The KMTC Shenzhen, which has a carrying capacity of 2,778 TEUs, was built in 2013.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
